Open Data & Analytics

In addition to its analytics work, MODA partners with the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunication to implement the NYC Open Data program and the de Blasio administration’s vision of Open Data for All.

New York City’s comprehensive Open Data Law ensures that the same data the City uses to run its daily operations is accessible to the public. This also makes the Open Data Portal, in many instances, an ideal data sharing platform for internal use cases. For this reason, Open Data underlies MODA’s analytics work. When MODA’s data scientists partner with City agencies on advanced analytics projects, they are almost always using Open Data.

Publicizing examples of analyses using Open Data makes City agencies more aware of the data they publish. This, in turn, spurs better upkeep and disclosure of datasets, allowing for even greater use. Open Source Analytics is MODA’s commitment to propel this virtuous cycle.
