About

The City of New York began publishing its first public datasets in 2009. This effort was codified into law in 2012 with the passage of NYC’s first Open Data Law, requiring each City agency to identify and ultimately publish its digital public data to a shared repository: NYC Open Data.

NYC Open Data contains billions of rows of data from approximately 100 City agencies and offices. This program is managed by the Open Data Team at the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), which works with a designated Open Data Coordinator (ODC) at each agency. These agency Coordinators work with the divisions within their agency and the Open Data Team to identify, document, structure, manage, and share public datasets.

With thousands of datasets, approximately a million visitors each year, and ongoing efforts to make government data accessible and inclusive, Open Data continues to be one of the best ways to bring New Yorkers closer to their city.
